Essence Fest recently celebrated it's 25th anniversary of being one of the nation's leading celebrations of black culture and entertainment. This festival was first created in 1994, and originally intended to be a one-time event, held in celebration of the success of Essence Magazine. For 25 years, people have traveled from all over the country to attend Essence Fest in New Orleans. Whether you're a music lover, foodie, beauty enthusiasts or anything in between, Essence Festival has something for you and the whole family!
This years festival featured big names like Michelle Obama, Ava Duvernay, Missy Elliot and much more! There were five themed experiences that gave attendees the opportunity to see live-concerts and comedy shows, shop from black-owned vendors, sit in on panel discussions and much more! This included the music festival, Entertainment All-Access, Essence Eats, Essence in the Park and Essence After Dark. Some of these events were held at the Mercedes Benz Super Dome, the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center and other venues around NOLA. Not only did people get to experience the rich culture of New Orleans, but they also got to see some of their favorite celebs and speakers. If you didn't get to go this year, don't worry because there is always next year! Be sure to check out our 2019 Essence Fest Recap video to join in on the fun.
