"The Reality is Sometimes You Lose" - Beyonce

“The Reality is, sometimes you lose. You’re never too good to lose. You’re never too big to lose, you’re never too smart to lose, it happens. And it happens when it needs to happen and you have to embrace those things.” - Beyoncé

Unless you have been under a rock for the past week, we all know that Beyoncé has changed the music industry yet again by releasing her secret self titled album “Beyoncé.” On this album one of my favorite songs is Flawless. I loved the fact that she shared with us the footage from Star Search although the “Hip Hop Rappin Girls Tyme” did not win. I mean look at her now, she’s winning in major ways. But I admired that, and after seeing this video “Part2. Imperfection” and hearing her explain the meaning behind it all it confirmed how I was already feeling.

2013 has been an amazing year for me. There have been a lot of yes’s but more no’s. I will admit at times it can get frustrating knowing exactly what you want but not being able to grasp it on cue.

I’ve auditioned for countless hosting positions for Revolt Tv, 106 & Park, to co-host with Angie Ange for theBeyoncé concert and to gain a position with Sirius XM. Competed in the Miss Maryland USA 2013 Pageant and came out as third runner up, and not to mention the countless emails that have been sent out to arrange interviews for guest to appear on my show, but didn’t hear back from. I even put in an application to gain a media spot on the red carpet for the 2014 Grammy’s, you guessed it…denied.

I have been introduced to some influential people who dominate the industry I am making my way in, and the biggest reason why I’ve been rejected is because of my location, so they say. I believe it has to do with my lack of “professional experience” as well. I get it, and I completely understand it; which is why I am so committed to giving sheislauren.com and “Tula Talks” my all.

I will admit I’ve had the opportunity to intern with WTOP and Sirius XM but due to financial circumstances, I had to devote my time to the job that was providing a paycheck. Since I couldn’t get that “professional experience” there I can go about this situation one or two ways. I can continue to beg for someone to give me a chance, or I can give myself a chance and keep moving forward.

I’ve realized that I need to use this time to truly perfect my craft. Yes, I still plan to do it all and I’ve been told that I have overly ambitious goals but that’s ok. I understand my vision and I will become the actress and talk show host I’ve always wanted to be plus more. I am not too concerned about the fame, that’s not my motive. I want to entertain and inspire. I want my work to make a difference. The way I feel after watching Oprah or Tyra Banks is what I want to do for others. Yeah, it’s that simple. So thanks Beyoncé, Oprah and Tyra because at the end of the day we all have the same 24 hours to work with and if you all can make your dreams come true even when the odds are against you, why can’t I?
